Our History

McIver & Smith Fabricators, Inc, founded in 1946 by John McIver & P.K. Smith, fabricates pressure vessels, towers, and reactors for the oil and petrochemical industry. The Company was acquired by R.L. Boles, Sr. in 1991. Mr. Boles has been an employee of McIver & Smith since the age of 19 and now has over 50 years experience in pressure vessel fabrication. With over 60 years of service, McIver & Smith is regarded as a preferred supplier in the industry with a successful history of quality workmanship. As one of the oldest fabricators around, McIver continues to be a leader in the industry.

Shop Capabilites

McIver & Smith is an A.S.M.E. Section VIII Div I Code shop that can fabricate pressure vessels, towers, and reactors out of several different materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, inconel, hastelloy, monel, and other alloys as well. The maximum size that McIver can fabricate is up to 17 ft diameter and up to 130 ft lg. McIver is National Board Certified with S, U, and PP stamps. McIver also has an R stamp for any repairs or changes needed on existing equipment. McIver & Smith's 39,000 sq. ft shop is located on 13 acres (which includes 2 1/2 acres of concrete slab) in Northeast Harris County (Houston, Texas). McIver also has it own outdoor sandblast and painting facility

Equipment

Indoor shop lifting equipment includes a 3 ton, 5 ton, 20 ton, and two 10 ton overhead cranes. McIver's outdoor mobile equipment includes three rough terrain cranes. 12.5 ton capacity, 18 ton capacity, and 30 ton capacity. In addition to our cranes, McIver has three forklifts. 20,000 lb, 12,500 lb, and a 7,500 lb capacity. McIver also has a 25 ton mobile straddle crane and a jacking system that can handle up to 300 tons safely. Any vessels over our 300 ton capacity can be handled by an outside crane service. In addition to our lifting equipment, we also have a set of plate rolls that can roll up to 3/4" thick up to 8 ft wide and two press brakes (150 ton and a 40 ton) for plate forming.

Safety

With our "safety starts with you" campaign McIver & Smith Fabricators operates and maintains a healthy and safe work environment. McIver has a continuing safety education program that includes an open door policy to all of its employees regarding safety concerns and weekly "tool room" meetings. The meetings consist of discussing new safety topics and addressing any concerns an employee might have. McIver & Smith's long standing commitment to safety remains a top priority in the organization.
